Parallel Increase

Grammaire anglaise · comparer

The more… the more

Parallel increase — the + comparative…, the + comparative…

the the… , the…
Comparatif taller / more / better
Sujet + verbe he grows / I feel

03 — Nuances

Plus… plus → the…, the…
The more I read, the more I learn.
Plus je lis, plus j'apprends.
De plus en plus → -er and -er
It's getting colder and colder.

The faster you run…
2e partie : will possible
…the sooner you'll get here.

Expressions toutes faites, sans sujet ni verbe :

The sooner, the better. The more, the merrier. The bigger, the better. The less said, the better.

04 — Pièges pour francophones

Les erreurs les plus fréquentes

×More he grows, more he eats.
✓The taller he grows, the more he eats.
On n'oublie jamais the, devant chacun des deux comparatifs.
×The more she is thin, the more her parents worry.
✓The thinner she gets, the more worried her parents become.
L'adjectif se colle au comparatif, en tête : the thinner she gets, pas the more she is thin.
×The further you go, the more expensive is it.
✓The further you go, the more expensive it is.
×The faster you will run, the sooner you will get here.
✓The faster you run, the sooner you'll get here.
Comme après if ou when, pas de will dans la 1re partie.
