Greeting customers

Warm-up: what does a server do between the moment guests walk in and the moment their order reaches the kitchen?

Serving the customer is the most important part of the job, since the customer is the most important person for the restaurant. This training video goes through the whole sequence: the host or lead server greets the guests and takes them to their table, the server greets the table and presents the menu, then takes the order on a server's pad or a tablet, noting the drinks and food separately, which guest ordered what and in what order the dishes should arrive.

You will also learn what happens next: repeating the order back to double-check it, entering it into the computer system so that it reaches the expo line and the expediter, and adapting the table settings to what the guests have ordered.
