The ADDIE process

ADDIE stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. It is one of the best-known models in instructional design: a step-by-step framework that teachers, trainers and instructional designers use to plan, build and improve a course or a training programme.

Its main strength is that it makes you think before you create. You start from the learners' needs and the goals of the training, you decide how learning will be assessed before writing any content, and you keep evaluating and improving your materials at every stage. That is why ADDIE is still the foundation of most training and e-learning projects, and why many newer, more agile approaches are built on it.

Start by reading the definition. Then watch the five short videos, one for each phase. For each phase, three activities follow on from each other: listen and fill in the gaps with the help of a word list, do it again without the word list, then review the key vocabulary.
